Why can't Docutrix find information in my document?

Indexing usually completes within a few minutes. If answers are still missing after that, check the file is a PDF or Word document (.docx) with real text, then replace it using the re-upload option in the document settings. Scanned, image-only PDFs without OCR text will not be indexed.

How to fix it

  1. 1

Wait a few minutes after uploading. Indexing usually completes within a few minutes, and answers can only come from documents that have finished indexing.

  2. 2

Check the file type. Docutrix indexes PDFs and Word documents (.docx). Google Docs, Sheets and Slides can be added through the Google Drive integration.

  3. 3

Check whether the PDF is a scan. Scanned, image-only PDFs without OCR text will not be indexed, because there is no text for Docutrix to read. Run the file through OCR first, or upload the original text-based version.

  4. 4

Replace the document using the re-upload option in the document settings.

  5. 5

Ask the question again. If the information still isn't found, contact support with the file name.

Good to know

  • If a document with multi-column layouts, complex tables or footnotes gave garbled answers in the past, try re-indexing it: the PDF parser was rewritten in Q1 2026 to handle these layouts more reliably.
